What We Do

There are three meetings every week were members of the Sin City Writers Group come together to share our work, give and receive critique, and support each other on our individual writing journeys. There is no fee to join or to read so, in a way, you are already a member!

How To Get On The Reading List

Two hours is usually enough time to critique 6 pieces (we also keep a waitlist in the event that we have extra time--and we almost always do!). If you would like to read at an upcoming meeting, here's how! 

Managing the reader list is a task we leave to our wonderful team of chairpersons! Each chair runs a specific meeting each month. To view the schedule, visit our events page or subscribe to our newsletter to get the information sent to you every Monday. This information can also be found on the Sin City Writers Facebook group.

If you would like to read at an upcoming meeting, please reach out directly to the meeting chair to be added to the agenda. 

Reading Your Work

• Please bring 10–20 printed copies of your piece. 

• Aim for a reading length of about 1,500 words (which averages out to 10 minutes). 

• The suggested format is 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced with line numbers for quicker reference.

• You will have 10 minutes to read, followed by a 5-minute live critique.

• We do not censor our readers, but a mature content disclaimer is appreciated when appropriate.

Critiquing Others

• Bring a pen so you can take notes on the provided copies that the author will take with them.

• Try to be constructive and helpful, not discouraging.

• You don't have to be an expert to give feedback! Reader reactions are equally valuable. Check out our critique tips for guidance.
